Fairview Park residents enjoy Winterfest

Fairview Park celebrated its fourth Winterfest on November 25 with a variety of events and activities for the entire family, including live reindeer, face painting, performers appearing in the gazebo, balloon art, and food trucks.

The festival, which was sponsored by the city and its Park Recreation Department, took place in Bain Park, and drew a large crowd.

Local television personality Todd Meany acted as emcee, and introduced Eileen Patton, Fairview's mayor, who in turn presented an award to Louise Leathers, who was the first owner of Fairview's official Christmas tree. During October, residents who wanted to have their trees considered for the honor submitted entries, which were reviewed by a committee. Leathers cried with joy when she was told that her tree, which she planted in the mid-1970s, had won. She said she had trimmed the tree every year until she could no longer reach the top.

To the delight of children young and old, Santa and Mrs. Claus arrived at the festival in style, riding on a fire truck. The Clauses were in attendance to count down the seconds to the tree-lighting ceremony, when lights came on throughout the park. White lights outlined Bain Park Cabin, as well as fences along the walkways leading to the structure. The gazebo itself boasted a lighted wreath and glimmering snowflakes.

Events like these can benefit if organizers work with flyer printing companies, which can Print handouts with a schedule of events, times, and locations.
