Fairview Park mayor to resign at end of term

Eileen Patton was recently elected to her fifth term as mayor of Fairview Park, and took the opportunity to announce that this would be her final four years in the post.

Patton made the statement on December 27, just before she was sworn in. Patton was first elected on December 26, 1999, at which time she became the 12th person to hold the office, and the first woman to do so.

Looking back over her career, she said she has been in public service for nearly 30 years, and has many good memories. She also praised the city council and said it was a privilege to work with them. As mayor, she has presided over the renovation of an area on Loraine Road that was once the site of a number of motels, and redesigned the largest shopping area in the city. She played a role in renovating the city's major park, and provided leadership during the crisis precipitated by Hurricane Sandy.

During her upcoming term, she plans to continue the economic redevelopment of Lorain Road, and has already begun working on finding a solution to the problem of residential flooding, which has been challenging the city for decades.

Members of the city council might like to work with a booklet printing company to compile a scrapbook that records the achievements of Mayor Patton during her time in office.
