Fairview Park residents are probably not thinking about Christmas just yet, buu organizers of the upcoming Winterfest are already doing so.
They are on the hunt for the perfect Christmas tree to be the focal point of the tree-lighting ceremony, scheduled for November 25. Winterfest organizers hope the lighting ceremony will become a new tradition for the community.
Winterfest officials are asking Fairview residents to consider donating a tree to the effort. The tree should be an evergreen, less than 20 feet tall, and late in its life cycle. Anyone who thinks they have the perfect tree for the event should fill out an entry form on the Fairview Park and Recreation website. Officials are asking potential tree donors to submit their names, addresses, phone numbers, and email addresses. They would also like to know the height of the tree, and any family stories in which it features. If the department is interested, it will contact the owner for further information.
When the winning tree is selected, the Service Department will remove it and take it to Bain Cabin, where it will remain on display throughout the holiday season. The owners of the tree will take part in the tree-lighting ceremony at Winterfest, and will be acknowledged as the tree’s owners.
The Great Christmas Tree Search is underway now, and continues through October 17. Events like these can be enhanced if organizers work with flyer printing companies to create mailers for residents.
