Earth Fair coming to North Olmsted

For the third year, North Olmsted plans to raise awareness of the environment with Earth Fair. This year, the community plans to celebrate bugs and butterflies.

Jackie Chavez-Anderson, who is the chair of the North Olmsted Arts Commission, is overseeing the local event. She says there will be a few vendors in attendance, but the main purpose of the event is to educate residents about sustainability, and support local businesses, farmers, and others.

Among the activities scheduled are pet adoptions, a petting zoo featuring over 20 farm animals, games and recycling crafts for children, music, and food trucks. Visitors will also have a chance to examine Dr. Insecta's insect station.

Chavez-Anderson and her husband came up with the idea for Earth Fair after they returned from a vacation to the tropics. Both enthusiastic SCUBA divers, they had noticed an increase in ocean pollution, and in the amount of trash dumped in the sea. She came up with the idea of a small fair to call attention to environmental problems.

This year, North Olmsted's fair falls on Earth Day itself, which is this Sunday, April 22. The fun takes place in the North Olmsted Community Park, from 1:00 pm until 4:00 pm. The event is free and suitable for people of all ages.

Organizers of events of this type could work with a banner printing company to create colorful Banners to decorate the venue, adding to the fun.
