Olentangy school board buys Academy
At its June 9 meeting, the Olentangy schoolboard agreed to purchase the Olentangy Academy in Lewis Center for $2,225,000.
The building was once an Ohio State University satellite campus, and now hosts several of the school district's programs, including a STEM (science, technology, engineering, math) Academy, and the Academy for Community Transition.
On the same day the purchase was agreed upon, a groundbreaking ceremony was held at the site of what will be a fourth high school in the district. District officials have stated that a new school need to be built to relieve overcrowding. They believe that the three existing schools, which were designed for 4,800, will have 6,600 students in attendance by the school year 2018-2019. The new school will offer 303,000 square feet for learning.
Construction of the new school, which is thought to resemble Orange High School, will be done by summer, 2018, so that it can open for the 2018-2019 academic year. The construction manager is Gilbane Building Company, working from a design by Fanning Howey Associates.
It is expected that the attendance boundaries for the district's schools will be determined during the current school year. The redistricting will determine which students go to the new school. The board is asking the public to help name the new building, and will accept suggestions in August. The name will be revealed in September.
Agencies like these can benefit from working with newsletter printing companies, which can help create material to explain complex issues.
