Lewis Center shows its science side
An advanced food sciences course is to be held in Lewis Center in a few weeks’ time.
Experience Food Science: Field to Package gives attendees the opportunity to work alongside professional lab technicians as they observe the process of packaging different foods for consumers. They will also have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience throughout the workshop with skills such as assessing differences in starch molecules, and comparison of oils in different sauces. The event is aimed at middle and high school teachers in the Ohio areas.
Other skills that participants may learn will include sanitation practices in food processing, testing for food contaminants, and achieving the ideal pH balance to prevent microbial growth. The course is designed to equip teachers with knowledge of how foods are tested for quality control, the benefits of food processing, and how to reproduce products for comparative use with their own students.
The event is free for all to attend. Educators may also look forward to $200 worth of classroom materials at the end of the session. Brochure printing can offer a great takeaway item for events such as this one.
This event will take place on Monday, July 24 at the Marzetti Innovation Centre. This is located at 8333 Green Meadows Drive, Lewis Center. It begins at 9:00 am and ends at 4:00 pm.
