Lewis Center residents asked for input about grants
Schools in the Olentangy district have received a number of grants, and the district would like to hear how members of the community wish for the money to be used.
Olentangy Local Schools now includes 23 separate facilities—three high schools, five middle schools, and 15 elementary schools. The current district grew out of one-room schoolhouses that were found in the area in the early 1900s. In 1911, the schools consolidated into four: Powell, Hyatts, Berlin, and Orange. In 1952, a consolidated school was built on Shanahan Road, which later became Olentangy High School.
The funds came from a variety of programs, including ECSE, IDEA, Title VI-B, Title III-LEP, Title II-A, Title I, Race to the Top, and others. The district wants to hear input from everyone in the community, including residents of the school district who have students currently enrolled in nonpublic schools.
The district might work with a postcard printing company to get a mailer ready for Lewis Center residents, reminding them of the meeting. Residents who would rather make their comments in writing may do so by contacting Jack Fette at Olentangy Local Schools.
The meeting is scheduled for June 25 from 5:30 pm to 6:00 pm., at the Curriculum Conference Center of the Olentangy Local Schools, on Shanahan Road in Lewis Center. If people with disabilities wish to attend the event, they should let the district know, and it will make every effort to see that they are accommodated.
