What's Happening in Lewis Center, OH…

Fresh water fundraiser features Zimbabwean cuisine

A Zimbabwean barbecue will be held in Lewis Center next month. The fundraiser will raise money to drill a new well in a rural village in Zimbabwe later this year.

The Drill 4 Life, Food 4 a Cause, Zimbabwean BBQ will feature authentic food, music provided by a professional disc jockey, face painting, a balloon artist, a bounce house, a silent auction and several raffle prizes. Live entertainment will include Zimbabwean music singers and dancers. Yard games including Spike Ball, Cornhole and a Football style toss game will be organized. Local vendors will have merchandise available for purchase, including a retailer with authentic Zimbabwe Curio sets. Guests will be able to enjoy their freshly grilled food at picnic tables at the park, and view pictures of wells that have already been drilled in Zimbabwe by the organization.

Interested vendors may register on the Eventbrite listing, for $50.00, to participate in the event. Retailers may sell merchandise and distribute promotional products, brochures and business cards as desired.

The mission of Drill4Life is to provide easily accessible, fresh water resources to rural villages in Zimbabwe. The wells that are drilled reduce sickness and death for local residents, by improving their sanitation and hygiene. The charity drilled its first well in 2014 in the village of Rushinga.

The Zimbabwean BBQ will be held on Sunday September 26th from 12:00-3:00 PM, at the Highbanks Metro Park, located at 9466 Columbus Pike in Lewis Center. Lunch tickets cost $25.00 for adults and $10.00 for children up to the age of 12. Charitable donations may also be made to Drill4Life on the Eventbrite listing.
