Delaware County launches health survey

In order to find out the most important health issues facing Delaware County’s young people, the Delaware General Health District has begun to gather information about their current health.

The district, which includes Lewis Center, is working together with the Family and Children First Council of Delaware County (FCFC) on the issue.

The study includes surveys of key informants, parents, and a Photovoice component. Once the information is gathered from these sources, it will be combined with other data, including a survey of risk behavior by young people. The FCFC will then look over all of the information and use it to determine the top health concerns facing young people in Delaware County. Once these issues have been identified, action plans will be fashioned to deal with those issues chosen as the main priorities.

The Health District is asking all parents in the county to take a survey, depending on how old their children are. The key informant survey will ask specific questions of people who work with young people, such as social workers and pediatricians. Finally, the Photovoice Project will allow young people to take photos and talk about their communities in their own words.

County health officials could work with a local postcard printing company to create a card to mail to parents reminding them about the survey.
