Originally named New Lancaster, the town underwent a name change through a city ordinance in 1805 and became known as Lancaster. With the connection of the Hocking Canal to the Ohio and Erie Canal during this time, the town experienced rapid growth as it provided an efficient way for the area's abundant agricultural produce to reach markets in the East. Formal incorporation as a city followed in 1831.
Yard Signs on farms can serve as a way to educate the public about agriculture, including information about the crops grown, the animals raised, and the farming practices employed. This can be particularly useful for farms that offer tours or educational programs to schools and other organizations.
