Lancaster officials are inviting members of the public to a hearing.
The City Council has scheduled a public hearing to discuss Temporary Ordinance 20-19, which would amend the zoning map, should the city agree to allow development on a particular parcel.
Mithoff Companies, a developer, is interested in having a zoning change made to a 76.877 tract with the address of 2200 North Columbus Street. The property is actually between Woodland Heights Lane and Whittier Drive, along North Columbus Street.
This property is called Timbertop, and the land surrounding it is zoned primarily for single family residential homes. However, Mithoff would like to develop the specific property described for both residential and commercial uses. The developer plans to locate its commercial enterprises mostly at the property's south end close to Columbus Street, with residential development taking place mostly on the north side.
At the northeast end, the property is adjacent to vacant land that is planned mostly for residences, with a school located on one property. There is a commercial property at the southwest corner, where there is a Lowe's, but single-family residences are on all the other adjacent properties. Residential use is the preferred use for the area, according to the Land Use Plan. The current zoning is R-1 (Rural Residential).
The hearing will be held at 6.30 pm on January 13, and residents are welcome to present their comments. Flyer printing can be used to create handouts for attendees at meeting like this.
