A workshop on the growth and benefits of fungi is coming to Lancaster, and area residents who want to get closer to nature are encouraged to attend.
The Mushroom Production for the Home Grower Workshop has an official start date, with interested parties congregating in a few weeks to learn new skills from experienced instructors. Guests will learn the essential tips and techniques to grow mushrooms to complement fresh herbs and vegetables from their gardens.
The workshop will be led by Janell Baran of Blue Owl Hollow Forest Farm, who will demonstrate the process of log inoculation for the small-scale production of different types of mushrooms used for culinary purposes. Mushroom types will include shiitake, lion’s mane, and oyster mushrooms. Students will also learn the ideal locations for the logs to ensure years of production. Brochure printing can help instructors at such events provide additional information to students to aid their growth.
Other information gained by attending will include site selection, care for the logs, and the cultivation resources to use when harvesting the mushrooms. Interested parties are also able to purchase inoculated logs to take home after the workshop’s conclusion.
The workshop will be held on Monday, March 10th, starting at 6:00 PM. Students will meet with Baran at the Keller Market House in Lancaster. Registration is open online for $35 per participant.
