What's Happening in Lancaster, OH…

Lancaster to get new Irish pub

A bit of Ireland is coming to Lancaster, in the form of O'Huids, a Gaelic pub. Judy and Keith Hood plan to open their new spot at Columbus and Main streets, where they'll take over the premises once occupied by the Signature Restaurant & Sports Bar.

The Hoods visited Ireland in 2016, but at that time, had no intention of opening a pub in Lancaster. However, according to Judy Hood, during their trip they enjoyed interacting with local people, taking tours, and exploring local restaurants and pubs. They found the atmosphere of such places to be fun and relaxing, and that helped them decide to try and recreate their experience here.

Also informing their decision was the fact they had considered a different opportunity recently, but it did not come to fruition. After talking to business owners in the area, and David Scheffler, the executive director of Destination Downtown Lancaster, they decided to pursue the idea of an Irish pub.

Judy says the pub is a pub first and foremost: they intend to serve drinks, ales and craft beers, and they’ll offer traditional pub food as well; they are not a restaurant serving drinks. O'Huids should be open in mid-September.

When businesses like this open, owners can help themselves by working with a flyer printing company on a handout, including a coupon for a discount, that will draw in new patrons.
