Lancaster follows state guidance in setting the annual Trick-or-Treat celebration, and recently released the schedule for 2019.
The Mid-Ohio Regional Planning Commission (MORPC) sets the date for Trick-or-Treat Night, and the City of Lancaster follows the commission's recommendations, holding the event from 6:00 pm until 7:30 pm. Halloween is October 31, and when that date falls on Friday, Saturday, or Sunday, the event is held the preceding Thursday. This year, October 31 is a Thursday, and that is when the event is planned.
Parents or guardians have the discretion to determine whether they should allow their children to trick-or-treat if the weather is inclement, since the city will not cancel or postpone the evening even if the weather turns wet or cold. Poster printing can be used to create signage for events like this.
The city also has some tips for making Halloween a happy and safe evening. They include having young children accompanied by adults, and older children should walk in groups. Costumes should be short enough that children will not trip on them, and visible at night. Reflective Tape can be used to increase visibility.
After dark, trick-or-treaters should use glow sticks or flashlights, and avoid using shortcuts. Children are reminded that they should never enter a strange vehicle or house, while parents should toss out all candy that is open, or not in its original Packaging. Finally, the police should be notified of any criminal or suspicious activity.
