Stadium project ready for third and final phase

The Boardman Local School District is entering the final phase of its ambitious multiyear stadium project, and fundraising efforts are continuing.

The third stage of this project involves adding amenities and incidentals such as bathrooms, locker rooms, and ticket booths. The funds needed to be raised to complete this phase are estimated to be $650,000. A private fundraising effort, The Stadium Project is headed up by the Boardman Booster Club.

So far numerous local businesses, families, and individuals have stepped up to help make the Stadium Project a success, but the Booster Club is asking for more help. The Spartan Stadium Brick Fundraiser is still underway to help support Phase 3 and the Boosters say they are calling on the ‘Spartan Nation’ to help by purchasing a brick in honor of a family member, friend, or colleague.

Tim Saxton, Superintendent of Boardman Local Schools has indicated that the completion of the project was a dream long deferred for the community. As he pointed out:

“If you think back, the high school opened in 1969, so we’re looking at some 40 years to finally complete this campus.”

This year, the community is celebrating a century of Boardman athletics – the sort of commemoration that may prompt a new line of Promotional Products to raise enthusiasm.

Completion of the venue is anticipated by 2018.
