New features are in store for an expanding Boardman Park thanks to a land donation.
Recently an exciting master plan was revealed that entails creating a Southern Park Historic District within Boardman Park. The area involved was at one time the Smith Family Homestead and the Southern Park Stables.
The Smith Family Homestead was gifted to Boardman Township in 2015. The property was then given over to the Boardman Township Park District. At the recent unveiling, several family members were on hand.
The master plan was not hastily drawn up but was instead the result of two years of discussion focused on developing a shared vision for how the additional park land should be used.
New brochure or flyer printing will likely be ordered at some point. A map will need to be included to educate and familiarize the public with the new space.
According to Chairwoman Joyce Mistovich of the Boardman Park Commissioners, the community will find a number of new attractions once the renovations have been completed.
Mistovich mentioned trails wandering throughout the addition, as well as a barn earmarked as a meeting space. Additionally, an outdoor meditation area was mentioned.
The next step will be a series of meetings to take place in within a few weeks to finalize a timetable and set an official starting date.
