The first Tuesday after Thanksgiving is a day designated for encouraging charitable donations, but two Boardman women made a big splash with their donations without even realizing it was Giving Tuesday.
A mother and daughter delivered a van filled with wrapped Christmas presents to Compass Family and Community Services. On December 2, the Youngstown organization was expecting the women, who had called in advance, but was unprepared for the overwhelming number of presents they brought with them.
The presents were purchased and wrapped by Mary Colleen Cefalu and her daughter Colleen. According to Colleen, it took the pair two months to wrap them all. The gifts were bought over a three-year period and are worth about $4,000.
Mary Colleen explained that every time they went out and bought items, they would put them away. Colleen explained it just seemed like the right time to make the donation, and they were also running out of room in the basement.
The pair bought costume jewelry, cars, dolls, beauty products, and games. Each gift was designated for either a boy or a girl and labeled by age. The staff will pass the gifts along to the children who receive care from Compass Services.
Organization like Compass Family and Community Services in Youngstown use poster printing services to raise awareness of their mission and solicit support.
