Boardman High receives visit from Ohio Supreme Court justice

Wednesday, March 23 was a red-letter day at Boardman High School, as a sitting Ohio Supreme Court Justice addressed students in person and made herself available for questions.

Justice Judith French takes an active part in civic education in the state and frequently makes trips to schools throughout Ohio for the purpose of discussing the state’s judicial system. Perhaps French, who was raised in Sebring, is so moved to contributing to the civic education of students because she is the daughter of a schoolteacher.

Listening to Justice French describe her small town upbringing and the road to her current position might easily have inspired visions of similarly impressive titles on premium Business Cards for Boardman students in their future.

French’s visit did not only benefit Boardman students; those from nine other school districts across the Mahoning Valley were in attendance as well. A group of 50 students on spring break from Austintown Fitch High School were part of French’s audience as well. The students sent by their districts were from U.S. History and AP Government classes and College Credit Plus.

After meeting with Boardman students during their 9:30 am government class, Justice French moved to the Boardman Performing Arts Center, where the multi-school group awaited her scheduled 10:00 am address. The official remarked that the question and answer session was her favorite part of the visit.
