New Indian restaurant now open in Hicksville

A vegetarian Indian restaurant, Mithaas, recently opened in Hicksville, joining three others already open in the Kundan Galleria.

The galleria is at the corner of Bethpage Road and North Broadway, adjacent to Apna Bazar, an Indian supermarket. The galleria is still under construction but is almost finished. Mithaas has locations in several New Jersey communities, but this is its first venture onto Long Island.

The menu features vegetarian dishes from various Asian regions, such as kaati roll, a sort of Asian burrito common in Mumbai; South Indian crepes like uttapam and dosas; dishes from Indo-China like Manchurian fried rice; and familiar tastes like tandoor vegetables, curries, and breads.

Mithaas has a motto of “Food for Every Mood” and strives to live up to it. Customers order their food at a counter, then take their seats. The food is brought to their table and served.

The restaurant has a contemporary décor with two main focal points: a case of colorful Indian desserts sitting next to the cash register, and the kitchen, which can be seen from the restaurant, though it is behind glass.

Other ethnic restaurants in the galleria are the Desi Fire Grill, specializing in kaati rolls; and Spice Diner, a formal Indian restaurant with a more extensive menu than Mithaas.
