Nelly among stars at Sparks event Sparks
Sparks has begun a pilot program that includes popup events, craft fairs, concerts, and other events around the city.
Among the upcoming events is a performance by hip-hop star Nelly, who is bringing his “Where the Party At” tour to Sparks. The lineup includes Nelly & the St. Lunatics, and will feature Chingy, Eve, Rute, and special guests.
Nelly (Cornell Iral Haynes Jr.) is a native of Austin, Texas, who grew up in University City, a St. Louis suburb. He began his career when he was still in high school, forming the group the St. Lunatics. The group was noticed for the single “Gimme What Ya Got,” released in 1996, but the group missed out on a record deal.
In 1999, Universal Music Group signed the now solo artist Nelly, though the label found his music “extraordinarily negative.” However, Nelly’s debut single, “Country Grammar” succeeded, climbing to No. 7 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and the UK singles chart. Seeing the artist’s potential, the label allowed him to work on his debut album, which was certified nine-times Platinum in 2004.
Nelly will appear with the St. Lunatics on August 21, from 5:30 pm until 10:00 pm, at the Nugget Event Center, 1040 Victorian Square Avenue in Sparks. City officials planning events like this can use poster printing methods to create advertising for them.
