Color runs are popular across the country, and an event of a similar nature is set to take place in Las Vegas.
The upcoming color festival is a modern version of the ancient Indian celebration of Holi. In India, the festival celebrates the end of winter and the beginning of spring. It also encourages people to resolve their differences with a hug and use colored liquids to symbolically toss their troubles away.
In Las Vegas, the upcoming Holi Festival of Colors will use colored powders rather than liquid, but the principle remains the same. The celebration offers cuisine, dance, mantras, yoga, non-stop live music, and color throwing. Among those scheduled to perform are Larisa Stow & Shakti Tribe, Mikey Pauker, TK & Namrock, and Aakansha, as well as yoga instructors.
Festival organizers have a list of dos and don’ts they ask attendees to follow. One of the most important is to ask others’ consent before throwing colors on them. In addition, they are reminded not to throw color into someone’s face but to place it gently on the skin—with their permission. Hugs are also encouraged, but permission needs to be requested first.
The Holi Festival of Colors will be held at Sunset Park in Las Vegas on April 16, from 11:00 am until 5:00 pm. Organizers of outdoor events like this can use banner printing to create directional signage to guide visitors to the venue.
