Las Vegas receives funds for planned bridge repair

Federal grants in the amount of $9.8m will enable the city of Las Vegas to improve a pair of bridges along U.S. Highway 95. These funds are distributed through the Competitive Highway Bridge Program, which overall awarded $225m to 18 states.

The bridges that need the upgrades are two overpasses on U.S. Highway 95, one of which is at Eastern Avenue and the other at Desert Inn Road. The Nevada Department of Transportation said that the superstructure of the bridge at Eastern Avenue is to be repaired while the bridge deck of the Desert Inn crossing is in poor condition. During fiscal years 2017 and 2018, the Department had spent $12m toward the preservation of bridges in the state so these two bridges received investments in their infrastructure.

The overall cost of the bridge project is expected to $17m so the department is seeking additional funding. Those who travel such corridors on a regular basis can receive updates on any projects involving them through flyer printing services.

The Department added that it is important to repair these bridges as the highway itself may be updated due to the proposed Interstate 11 that will run through the Las Vegas Valley. Interstate 11 will be designed to connect manufacturing areas and ports in Mexico with Canada, and cross the largest economic and manufacturing areas in the state.
