Las Vegas officials investigate plans for a new soccer stadium

A matter under consideration by the Las Vegas City Council is the construction of a new soccer stadium on the site of Cashman Field that will house the expansion of a Major League Soccer team.

If city officials approve of an exclusive agreement with The Renaissance Companies Inc., talks would follow for the next 180 days regarding building the stadium and a mixed-use development on Cashman Field, which the city owns. The site is 62 acres in size and is located near downtown Las Vegas.

As part of the negotiating agreement, a detailed plan for financing of the stadium would need to be presented by a financial structuring advisor, a project manager, and a representative from Renaissance. The owners of the Las Vegas Lights also must work with the city to develop an application to become an expansion team. Members of the community who are interested in such plans and developments can look to flyer printing and other printing services.

The mixed-use development would include apartments and hotels, while keeping Cashman Field would enable the Las Vegas Lights to continue playing in the Championship division of the United Soccer League, which is the professional league a tier below the Major Soccer League (MLS).

Mayor Carolyn Goodman said that once the team has the capabilities to join the MLS, Cashman Field will then be used as a practice field.
