The Sloan Canyon National Conservation Area which it serves features volcanic rock peaks that are over 5,000 feet in height, as well as dry lake beds. The Sloan Canyon Petroglyph Site is the centerpiece of the area with over 300 rock art panels that contain 1,700 design elements.
In the Lake Mead National Recreation Area, the White Rock Canyon/and Goldstrike Canyon trails south of Las Vegas are now opened. Repairs on the Historic Railroad Trail have been completed. The Railroad Trail enables hiking from Boulder City to Hoover Dam with views of Lake Mead while the other two trails lead to several hot springs and the Colorado River.
