The second largest bridge in the state of Nevada is now opened in Las Vegas.
The flyover bridge is over 2,600 feet long and connects the westbound 215 Beltway in northwest Las Vegas with US Highway 95. Its length is equivalent to that of seven football fields and enables two lanes of freeway traffic connecting the north and the west sides. Measuring 39 feet wide and 75 feet high, it is a box girder structure.
Announcements of such new bridges are often made known to the public through banner printing.
The project will also require the construction of a second smaller bridge that will act as an interchange linking southbound US Highway 95 with the eastbound 215 Beltway. It will be 35 feet wide and 30 feet high. The bridge will be 1,655 feet long. Additional planned improvements will include new lighting, upgrades to drainage systems, landscaping, and enhancements to the Intelligent Traffic System.
Once completed the two bridges will crisscross in mid-air with a foundation of 60 piles that are 10 feet in diameter and 80 feet deep. Close to 150 skilled tradespeople will be employed by the two projects which are being funded through $19m from the federal government and $54m from the state. The additional improvements and second bridge are expected to be completed by mid-December.
