A new charter school that will be free to all students will be coming to downtown Las Vegas.
The goal of Battle Born Academy, co-founded by Kathy Rudd, will be to contribute to an equitable system of education in the state and create a community of happy students. Rudd said that the educational approach used in the school will be project-based learning that will enable students to find challenges in their communities and develop solutions for them. The projects will last for six weeks and will be managed by the students themselves. Students will be required to conduct research, complete tasks and assignments, and get involved in creating and building.
In addition to the basic required courses, students will be able to choose from elective courses in physical education, dance, art, theater, among others. This will develop students who are well-rounded and will have many different opportunities for learning. Students will also eat both breakfast and lunch on campus so they can enjoy a tasty meal and the fellowship with other students. Such planned schools often turn to local Print shops for both educational and administrative purposes.
The school will have 135 students in its first year of operation in kindergarten and grades one, five and six. The plan is to have a total of 540 students in kindergarten through grade eight.
The school is scheduled to open in August of next year.
