This year, Trenton, near Hamilton, celebrated its biggest National Night Out to date. Around 120 events for the evening were registered with the event's organizers at City Hall.
To kick off the festivities, the city held an event the Monday before the National Night Out, a highlight of which was the raffling off of bounce houses. Four houses were available, representing each of the city's wards.
The goal of National Night Out is to encourage community building and better partnerships between the police and the communities they serve. Organizations that put together a National Night Out event can use Promotional Products to encourage participation and get people on board.
Recently elected Mayor of Trenton Reed Gusciora told the Trentonian that he was not surprised by the uptick in participation this year. He explained:
“When I was walking around during the campaign, people wanted to roll up their sleeves and help make this city work.”
“They felt the city was stagnant for too long. I think the fact that there’s 120 sites for National Night Out shows that these are times when neighbors are coming together to address crime, the lack of hope and provide an outlet for us to talk and solve our problems collectively.”
During the National Night Out, Mayor Gusciora planned on visiting around 40 of the different events.
