Hamilton pet rescue organisation Animals In Distress has managed to rehome an abandoned kitten, despite the major health issues the animal has.

The kitten, named Binx, was found abandoned in the summer and handed into Mercerville Animal Hospital. Animals In Distress decided that the kitten deserved another chance at life and agreed to fund his treatment, which was going to amount to almost $3,000.

Dr. Colleen Stevens, who had given Binx his first checkup, said:

‘The kitten had ringworm, and he also had no eyelids – eyelid agenesis – a condition that is extremely rare. There was something about him, and I just knew he would be a fighter, no matter what he had to endure for us to take care of his issues’.

After treatment for his ringworm, for which he had to have daily baths, and two separate surgeries to reconstruct his eyelids, Animal In Distress president Pat Soltis and secretary Carol Pfeiffer both agreed that the funding and effort had been worth it, as the kitten had a ‘fighting spirit’.

Binx is now able to shut his eyes and sleep properly, the eyelid surgery having been a complete success, and he has found a new home with Doris Weiss, who said she had a “soft spot” for cats with special needs.

Nonprofits like Animals In Distress often benefit from poster printing to generate donations from local animal lovers.
