New facility for womens health to open in Hamilton

The Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Hamilton recently announced that it has acquired the Brickner-Mantell Center for Women's Health so as to increase its focus on health issues for women.

The new name for the center will be the Robert Wood Johnson Center for women’s health. Women from adolescence to menopause will have access to all gynecological services, including minimally invasive surgery options using state-of-the-art procedures. Services regarding breast health, menopause management, and osteoporosis will also be offered. There will be three locations in East Windsor and Hamilton.

The Hospital had previously discontinued all obstetrics and maternity services. According to vice president of communications and marketing for RWJ Hamilton, Diane Grillo, demographics have changed and there are more women over the age of 45 in the area. As with many other practices in this specialty, the transition involves focusing on women’s health, uro-gynecology, and oncology.

Statistics from Truven Health Analytics back up Grillo’s claim, showing that in 2000, the number of women in the Hamilton area over the age of 45 was 45,000, yet it grew to over 55,000 last year. It is expected to increase to 60,000 within the next four years.
