Hamilton YMCA benefits from formal appeal for clothing

A program called the Togetherhood Service Committee recently held its first annual prom clothing drive, collecting hundreds of items.

In recognition of the amount of money that is spent on prom dresses, tuxedos and accessories, the Hamilton Area YMCA has launched the Committee in order to hold a prom and formalwear drive. This will benefit high school students who may not have the means to attend their prom.

Altogether, 145 tuxedo Vests and ties, nearly 100 pairs of shoes, 16 tuxedos, 155 tuxedo shirts, 614 formal and cocktail dresses, and a range of accessories were collected. Gianni Formal Wear and Tailoring in Hamilton made the largest donation to the drive by contributing more than 300 pieces of formalwear.

According to Mary Ann Heenehan, chairperson of Togetherhood, the goal was to ensure that all students would have a dress or suit of their dreams so they could attend the prom.

The CEO of the Hamilton Area YMCA, David Kisselback, commented that due to the hard work of the committee and the generosity of many businesses and individuals alike, the cost of going to the prom will not be a barrier for teens in the community.
