Hamilton to host dance for visually impaired people

Eyes Like Mine Inc. will be organizing a contest in Hamilton to raise awareness for people with impaired vision.

Dancing with the Blind is an event where those who are visually impaired can express themselves through dance while competing against other blind individuals. Each team will have a sighted partner to help guide them through their routines. Those who participate in the program can also take part in photo shoots and film video diaries that document their experience in the competition. The performances will be held in front of a live audience.

Eyes Like Mine Inc. is a non-profit group that was created in 2014 by Krystle Allen, a community outreach specialist for the New Jersey Commission for the Blind and Visually Impaired. Her organization wishes to raise awareness of the abilities of those with impaired vision and break down societal barriers against people impacted by vision loss. The group hosts information sessions and participates in expos like the Jacksonville Women’s Expo.

The dancing competition will be held on Friday, April 28 at the Grounds for Sculpture from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Those who purchase their tickets by April 1 can pay $25 to attend. Door admission for the event will cost $30. Non-profits that coordinate community programs like this may use poster printing to spread awareness about their events.
