A gardener from the Grounds For Sculpture in Hamilton will be offering a class about orchids in March.

Introduction to Orchids is an on-site and indoor lesson offered at the Grounds For Sculpture where guests will learn the basics for growing their own orchids. The instructor will define orchids and teach students about how the flowers grow in natural habitats. The major differences between orchids and average houseplants will also be highlighted during the workshop. Once the class is completed, guests can partake in a repotting activity.

The presenter of the workshop is Cat Swiderski, a horticulture assistant who recently completed an internship with the Grounds For Sculpture. She is enrolled at Mercer County Community College in the Ornamental Horticulture program. Swiderski has over a decade of orchid growing experience and is a member of the American Orchid Society. She is passionate about turning people into successful orchid growers. Presenters like this may increase public awareness for their gardening workshops by making displays with banner printing.

The orchid course will be held on March 26 from 10:30 am to 12:00 noon. People who have a membership with the Grounds For Sculpture can pay $30 to attend Swiderski’s workshop. Non-members may also take part in the class, though it will cost $40 for them instead. All participants will receive a repotted orchid to take home after the lesson is finished.
