Hamilton resident takes the reins at local school district

Hamilton Township School District announced that a local, Scott Rocco, will become its next superintendent.

The district revealed the news in a press release it sent out at the beginning of February, and Rocco was officially appointed to the position during a school board meeting of February 6.

Rocco is scheduled to start his new job at the beginning of May, taking over from Thomas Ficarra, who has been the interim superintendent for the district since 2015. Under New Jersey law, Ficarra needed to leave the position by May of this year, since interim superintendents are not allowed to serve for more than two years.

The process of hiring the new superintendent involved a multistage interview and review process, community forums, and stakeholder surveys.

Rocco has more than two decades of experience in education. Prior to being hired by Hamilton, he was the superintendent at Spotswood Public Schools since 2013. He also serves as an adjunct professor at the College of New Jersey and has been a NJEXCEL instructor for more than a decade.

During his appointment meeting, Rocco thanked the schoolboard and members of the community, stating that it was a privilege and honor to be there.
