It was a gamble that paid off - as this year he earned the title of Hamilton Kiwanis Club Officer of the Year. Palmieri is the 42nd police officer to receive the recognition.
Speaking to NJ.com, Palmieri stated that he felt drawn to either the civil or military service after 9/11. He said he:
"took the civil service exam and was lucky enough to have been placed in [his] hometown."
Now, after eight years on the force, Palmieri is a detective.
Since he has called Hamilton home for his entire life, winning the award had special meaning for him. Although he stated that he would do his best work no matter where he was placed as an officer, getting to serve on the Hamilton force means he's to:
"give back to where [he] grew up."
Palmieri noted that his favorite thing about the job was getting to help out in the local community.
