The Grounds For Sculpture will be holding an adult lesson in July where people in Hamilton can make personal containers.

Creating A Safe Container is a program where adult students will learn how to use varied hand-building techniques to create a vessel for their cherished belongings. The event is part of the Fragile: Soul series, which contains programs that help those impacted by depression, anxiety, and PTSD. The instructor of the art class is Sarah Petty, a trauma specialist who has worked with the Somatic Experiencing Trauma Institute and is a graduate of the Maryland Institute College of Art.

Petty's class is held in partnership with The Color Network. The organization encourages more people of color to take part in the ceramic arts by helping artists network, hosting public exhibitions, and providing safe rooms for specific communities. The group was co-organized by Natalia Arbelaez, Adam Chau, Magdolene Dykstra, April D. Felipe, and Salvador Jiménez-Flores. The ceramics organization also offers a mentorship program for artists.

The container creation activity is a three-day class held on July 16th, July 17th, and July 23rd. The lessons will last from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm. There is limited capacity, and no payment is needed to participate in Petty's course. Museums that organize community programs like this may use banner printing to promote their art classes to an outdoor audience.
