The university is partnering with Lyft, a ride-sharing and on-demand transport service, to form its ‘Ride Smart’ initiative. the free rides are part of a program by Lyft designed to reduce or prevent distracted and impaired driving.
Between the hours of 10:00 pm and 6:00 am Thursdays through Saturdays, students who use the service and who are within 10 miles of the school's main campus or the Westminster Choir College in Princeton will get a free lift to a designated drop-off point.
Schools that are offering safety initiatives can use Stationery printers to let students know about the programs.
The vice president of Student Affairs at Rider, Leanna Fenneberg, said in a statement:
"The safety and well-being of our students is paramount to our mission. Partnering with Lyft to implement our Safe Rides program makes sense using technology that is familiar to our students. We look forward to putting this program into operation."
To get the free rides, students need to sign up for an account with Lyft using their email address with Rider University. They then need to get in touch with the public safety office to receive a code.
