A cheesesteak chain based in Philadelphia, Wit or Witout, recently announced that Hamilton will be the home of its first location outside of Philadelphia. This will be the third location for the shop, which will be on Sloan Avenue.
According to Tony Altomare, founder and president of Wit or Witout, the experience of eating a Philadelphia cheesesteak has made the city famous and the desire was to take that experience outside of the city and create a fun place for people to enjoy the food of the city.
Altomare purchased Wit or Witout in 2013 and saw the opportunity to expand the chain, as there are Chinese restaurants, pizzerias, and burger restaurants everywhere, but cheesesteaks are harder to find outside of Philadelphia. He selected Hamilton as the inaugural location because the neighborhood is one where he believes people appreciate tradition and have a fondness for food.
The name comes from how a Phildelphia-style cheesesteak is ordered—for someone who wants onions, it is a cheesesteak “wit”, and for no onions, it is a cheesesteak “witout”.
Kim Koscielicki of Hamilton will be managing the restaurant and is in the process of hiring new employees and training them for the grand opening. This is an opportunity for business card printing for those who will be working at the restaurant.
The new location is due to open in early spring.
