Airline to build new hub in Concord

Concord-Padgett Regional Airport will become a new hub for Allegiant Air, with an investment of $50m.

As a result, the low-cost carrier will be bringing 66 new jobs into the area, many of whom many require business card printing services. The carrier will also be housing two Airbus aircraft. This hub will make it the 21st aircraft base for Allegiant.

Concord has a population of over 94,000, making it the largest city in Cabarrus County. Bill Dusch, mayor of Concord, expressed his pleasure that Allegiant, which first flew from the airport in 2013, has selected Concord for this new hub which will bring new travel opportunities and jobs for those who live in the city and the Charlotte region. He added that he is looking forward to building a partnership with the airline.

Vice president of government affairs for Allegiant, Keith Hansen, expressed his excitement about making Concord a permanent base and making Allegiant the hometown airline for the city. Concord is a regional destination given its many vacation attractions and its destination for racing enthusiasts and so it became the ideal location for a base for the airline. Dirk Vanderleest, airport aviation director, added that this will be a great opportunity to build a relationship with a growing airline and a growing community.

The new hub is scheduled to open in October.
