The winter months can be especially tough for Charlotte’s feral, abandoned and stray cats, but the public can come to the rescue. The city’s Humane Society has put out a call for volunteers for an event that will craft warm, dry cat shelters, and the more helping hands, the better.
During the free, hands on activity, members of the public will be converting 30-gallon Totes into cat shelters, and the tools and other materials needed will be supplied. The whole family can participate, but the planners noted that sharp tools will be used.
A request has been made that each person who plans on making a cat shelter bring along as many Totes and lids as they wish. Once they are completed, they can either be taken home by the participants and used in their own neighborhood or donated to the Humane Society. It will use them to help the cats in the feral colonies it cares for.
A grass roots project like this can benefit a lot of homeless cats, and it can also help to raise awareness about the issue in the community. A printing services company can lend a hand by supplying stickers which can be placed on each cat shelter that indicates what it is and why it’s important.
This community service project has been planned for December 7th. It will be held at The Humane Society of Charlotte, which can be found at 2700 Toomey Avenue.
