Phlebotomy workshop planned for Charlotte
A phlebotomy workshop is being offered to healthcare professionals from Charlotte and the surrounding areas that will equip those who take part with skills they can make use of in their own practices.
An assortment of techniques in the art of drawing blood for testing will be covered, including use of the evacuated tube system and a winged infusion set, basic methods for venipuncture, and proper order of draw. The different test tubes, and the additives that are placed in them, will also be discussed.
The instruction is intended for those who already work in the healthcare system and who wish to enhance the care they provide to their patients. Hands-on experience will be a part of the day, and if there is time and if the instructor feels it is suitable, Clinical & Laboratory Standards Institute (CLSI) guidelines for both heel and finger sticks will also be addressed. Digital copying can be utilized by the organizers of a seminar such as this to produce educational materials for each person who takes part.
The registration fee for the daylong session has been set at $169 each. It will take place on April 28 at the Carolinas College of Health Sciences, which can be found at 1200 Blythe Boulevard in Charlotte. Further information and an opportunity to register can be found on the institution’s website.
