Charlotte recently saw its first ever nonhospital birthing center open its doors.
The new facility, which officially opened last weekend, includes a variety of features intended to make the women who make use of it feel as relaxed and at home as possible. It has a staff of three certified nurse midwives, who provide support to the mothers-to-be, and deliver everything from care to women during the pre-natal period, to births and also care for the antenatal time after the baby is born.
The center, which provides care for women with low-risk pregnancies, is intended to provide a middle ground between hospital and home births. If there are any complications, Novant Health Care can step in and provide medical support. According to Dr. Chris Morris, who is a doctor at nearby Novant hospital, all women who use the birthing center will be registered at the hospital in case such a situation arises.
A poster printing company can produce artwork for the facility that has been specially designed to be calming for the mothers, which can help to make the birthing process go as smoothly as possible for them.
At least 28 women have already arranged to have their babies at the new facility. Should any of them develop a complication in their pregnancy, they will be referred to an obstetrician.
