Green thumbs and amateur historians from Charlotte, or those who just enjoy strolling through a garden, are invited to an event that will combine both horticulture and history.
Rosedale Plantation will be hosting its second annual Garden Tour. Along with the tour of the grounds of the plantation, those who take part will be taken for a special visit of the grounds of the Duke Mansion, and also the historic Elmwood Cemetery. While on the walk, the participants will have a chance to learn more about the history of these sites and the flowers and other plants that grow there. At the conclusion of the afternoon, there will be an opportunity to enjoy a cocktail or wine and cheese, and purchase an heirloom plant like the ones that were seen during the walk.
Dr. Larry Mellichamp, who is the past director of the botanical gardens at UNC will be on hand to provide further information and conduct the private tour.
The event is open to people of all ages, and the admission price has been set at $65 each or $10 per couple. It will take place on May 1st, starting at 1:00 pm. Booklet printing can be used to produce special note pads for events such as this so that those who take part can record any gardening tips or other useful hints they learn.
Both further details and a chance to register can be found on the Rosedale Plantation website.
