What's Happening in Charlotte, NC…

Charlotte virtual camp to help build literacy skills

A summer of fun is on the way for Charlotte kids who take part in a local literacy camp, and the organizers hope the campers will have so much fun they will not even realize they are gaining valuable skills.

The Cloverbud Literacy Camp, which is a joint initiative of Mecklenburg County 4-H and the NC Cooperative Extension, Mecklenburg County Center, is for children from ages five to eight. It will offer a variety of ways for them to add to their reading and comprehension skills, and as it will take place virtually, the campers can get in on the fun from wherever they might be.

The registered children will receive kits of materials that include activity guides, books, and other items. They will be introduced to an assortment of STEM concepts, as well as art and social studies, and the packets of supplies will be available for pick up at the County Extension Office located at 1418 Armory Drive.

When preparing the kits that will be distributed during a virtual event like this, the organizers often choose to include “swag” such as promotional pens and other small items. These are available form a printings services company, and can be printed with a logo or other graphic design.

The 4-H Cloverbud Literacy camp will be held on July 8, 15, 22, and 29. A full description of the function, as well as the behavior expected of the registrants and their families, can be found on its online listing.
