A wellness day event is in the works for Black men in the Charlotte area, with several beneficial health events and family-friendly activities planned.
The 2024 Charlotte Black Men’s Wellness Day is set to begin in a few weeks. It will provide Black men with access to health screenings, live entertainment, local vendors, and free family activities. The event, which the African American Male Wellness Agency is organizing, has promoted a 5K Run/Walk event in 15 different cities since 2004.
The organizer aims to raise awareness of statistics related to the life expectancy of Black men and the different paths they can take toward a healthier future. The goal is to focus on health and help men avoid preventable diseases that reduce their quality of life. Flyer printing is an effective grassroots method of spreading the word about such health events around the community.
The event is centered around free health screenings, with each screening examining blood pressure, glucose, cholesterol, prostate cancer, HIV, and STI/STDs. Men who have not visited the doctor recently are encouraged to attend to identify health risks and begin taking preventative measures.
The wellness event will be held at the Friendship Missionary Baptist Church on Saturday, October 12, from 7:00 am to noon. Attendance and participation in the 5K are free, and interested parties can make reservations online.
