Charlotte to learn secrets of successful veggie growing
The Charlotte area has an excellent climate for growing veggies, and an upcoming workshop can help point the way to horticultural success.
The community room at the Cornelius Library will be the venue for a class that will introduce the basics of growing vegetables at home. Designed to be a good fit for the beginner, everyone will be encouraged to ask the facilitator any questions they have.
The topics on the agenda for discussion during the session will range from growing using containers or raised beds to creating a healthy and productive soil. Tips for choosing which species and cultivars will perform best in particular locations will be shared, and pest management, watering, harvesting, and the cultural concerns will all be discussed. As only a set number of spaces are available, anyone who is interested will need to sign up ahead of time, and the workshop will run for one hour.
Many gardeners enjoy sitting in on a workshop, even if they are a seasoned green thumb and it will only serve as a refresher. Handouts for a class can be provided by stationery printers.
This opportunity for area home gardeners to hit the ground running when it comes to their vegetable beds will be held on May 20. It will begin at 11:00 am and wrap up at 12:00 pm.
