Charlotte residents asked to lend a helping hand to local students

Thousands of Charlotte students will be returning to school this fall, but not all of them will have the supplies they need to do so. An event has been planned that could change all of that.

A book bag drive has been organized to collect them for children and young adults in need. People who are interested in lending a hand are asked to drop off a new backpack or other school supplies at Materials Girl Stores up until August 26. After that, they will be distributed to those who can use them.

Last year, 250 book Bags were given to homeless families to make sure that their children had what they need to help them achieve success in school. This year, a goal has been set of 500.

Those who are not able to donate a backpack or other supplies can still do their part to make a difference, as monetary donations are also being accepted. Those who wish to do so can use the ‘Get Tickets’ button on Eventbrite to make their contribution.

Material Girl Stores is located at 520 Collins Aikman Drive in Charlotte. It is open on Tuesdays to Fridays from 11:00 am until 7:00 pm and on Saturdays from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm. Further details can be found on Eventbrite. Flyers can be posted throughout the community to make more people aware of events such as this, which can help to ensure that they meet their goal.
