Union Station unveils new attractions
Major attractions are now open at St. Louis Union Station, as part of the development of the property as an entertainment venue.
Lodging Hospitality Management has put $187m into renovating the station, which will include the St. Louis Aquarium, though that is not scheduled to open until December. The attractions that opened yesterday are the St. Louis Wheel, a miniature golf course, a carousel, and a new restaurant.
The 200-foot wheel has 42 gondolas that can carry as many as eight people in climate-controlled comfort. There is a VIP gondola that features leather bucket seats, glass floors, and more. The gondolas, which were made in Switzerland, feature a two-way communications system so people can reach the operator, interior lights, and glass exteriors. A ride on the wheel, which will be open from 10:00 am until 10:00 pm daily, lasts between 12 and 15 minutes.
A traditional merry-go-round featuring two themed chariots and 30 animals has also opened, and is located close to the wheel. The carousel is 36 feet wide, and will be open during the warmer months. In addition, a restaurant known as Soda Fountain opened, taking over the former Hard Rock Cafe space. The menu will be classic diner fare such as hot dogs, burgers, and milkshakes. Flyer printing can be used to create handouts to advertise the opening of attractions like this.
