St. Louis to offer documentary workshops

The Central branch of the St. Louis Public Library will host a workshop series in July for aspiring filmmakers.

The Documentary Film Intensive with Foveal Media is a program that gives novice filmmakers a chance to learn from expert presenters and create original short documentaries. There will be four workshops in the series that cover the pre-production, production, and post-production processes of making films. Many aspects of filmmaking will be covered in the series, including how to source gear for their movies, camera operation techniques, and distribution strategies.

Foveal Media will present the workshop. The organization is an artist collective based in St. Louis that creates many types of videos, such as documentaries, narrative projects, and live event coverage. The group is run by Anna Minx, Bryan Dematteis, and Chad Eivins. Various subjects are used for the organization’s videos, including the Assembly Required Exhibit and the 13th Street Community Garden in St. Louis.

The intensive workshop series will take place on July 9th, July 16th, July 23rd, and July 30th. Each session will be held from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Registration is required for the program, and only 15 adults can participate. Attendees will be split into teams to work on their documentaries. Organizations that offer similar workshops can utilize brochure printing to bring educational materials to share with their students.
