St. Louis to give educational plant presentation

The St. Louis Public Library will hold a lecture next weekend that goes over historically significant plants.

Plants that Changed the Course of History is a lecture that forms part of the Missouri Botanical Garden Speaker Series. The presentation will be on Fifty Plants that Changed the Course of History, a book by Bill Laws that educates readers about crucial crops and medicinal plants. Laws is an experienced writer and public speaker who has published other works such as A History of the Garden in Fifty Tools and Fifty Railways that Changed the Course of History.

The discussion will be led by Carol Gravens, an advanced-level Master Gardener member who is part of the Master Gardener Speakers Bureau. She graduated from the Meramec branch of the St. Louis Community College with a degree in horticulture. The St. Louis Master Gardeners organization was formed in 1983 and has more than 300 members. The group offers lessons at the Botanical Garden’s Kemper Center and gives public horticulture classes.

The presentation on plants will be held next Saturday, June 1 from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm. The activity will take place in the library’s second-floor meeting room. Gravens’ lecture is free to the public, though registration is required due to limited space. Libraries that hold similar discussions can advertise these programs with poster printing services.
