St. Louis ready to rock this fall
A band that got its start in Melbourne, Australia, will be in St. Louis for one performance later this year.
The Little River Band named themselves after a road sign for a township in the Australian state of Victoria. They first got together in 1975, and have become popular all over the world. They have 18 albums to their credit, and have sold more than 30 million records.
In 1979, their song “Lonesome Loser” went to the No. 1 spot on the charts in the United States, where it remained for three weeks, and won them a Grammy nomination. The group has had another nine singles make it into the top 20 on the Billboard charts.
Over the years, the band's membership has changed, and now no founding members are left. However, fans note that new musicians coming in have worked hard to maintain the band's original sound. One review singled out Wayne Nelson, who has been with the group for over 40 years, for keeping the sound authentic:
